CASP Services — MiCA Authorization by Service Type

Each service type requires separate NCA authorization. A single MiCA application can cover multiple service types from the same entity.

CASP Services — FAQ

What services require MiCA CASP authorization?
All crypto asset services: exchange/trading, custody, brokerage, portfolio management, token issuance (EMT/ART), order reception/transmission, placement of crypto assets, and transfer services. Each service type requires separate NCA authorization.
Can one CASP license cover multiple services?
Yes. A single MiCA authorization can cover multiple CASP service types from the same entity. We recommend applying for all intended services upfront to avoid separate applications later.
What is EU passporting for CASP services?
Once authorized in any EU member state, a CASP can provide its licensed services to clients across all 27 EU member states via the passporting notification procedure under MiCA Art. 60-76.
How long does MiCA CASP authorization take?
MiCA mandates a 3-month NCA review. Total timeline (preparation + review) ranges from 3–5 months in fast jurisdictions (Lithuania, Estonia) to 6–12 months in Germany or Luxembourg.
